I Hope you are keeping well in these strange times and protecting yourselves and others against this terrible virus.
Even our own PM is currently battling the virus and in hospital. Please take care.
As life has changed so much for us all with social distancing and self-isolating requirements, there are just three updates I wish to share with you, all are important and all can be done from home! If you can help by supporting/sharing, please do. Thank you.
Prayer
Please pray for our country, our world, ourselves. We know prayer works and we know when two or more are gathered (virtually or otherwise!), it works too. Our beautiful TCS Prayer attached again for those who do not have it.
Lifeline Appeal
Sadly, our 106 charity shops have closed temporarily in line with government guidance. 185 staff have already been furloughed and more may follow in this respect. All of our events, challenges, talks, face-to-face meetings have been postponed/cancelled.
Nevertheless, vulnerable children and young people urgently need our support now more than ever. The current Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is seriously impacting our ability to raise awareness and funds in the community in the usual ways. Like everyone, we are required to social distance – not conducive to active fundraising! We have therefore launched our Lifeline Appeal – an emergency request for donations. A Lifeline for All
Today we are launching a new reactive campaign – No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) – as part of the Emergency Appeal, asking supporters to contact their MP about an urgent issue that we’re particularly concerned about.
Thousands of children are facing extreme poverty and hunger because of strict immigration rules. Those who have not yet qualified for permanent residency have ‘no recourse to public funds’. This rule prevents young people and families from accessing essential support such as Universal Credit, tax credits and free school meals. Many of these young people are British citizens or have lived in the UK for the whole of their life. Other young people came to this country alone or were trafficked here by criminal gangs.
We’re calling on the Government to step in and provide an urgent lifeline by immediately suspending this rule, so that children and families from all backgrounds, regardless of immigration status, can access the vital support they desperately need.
