Men’s Group
The Men’s group consists mainly (but not exclusively!) of men from the congregation of St. Giles’ church. We always welcome new faces!
The St Giles’ Men’s Group usually get together in the meeting room of the St Giles’ Community Hall on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.
During the year evenings are introduced by either one of our own members or by an invited speaker and usually take advantage of a digital projector. Subjects are wide and varied. During the year we try to have at least one meeting showing archive film of historic aircraft or steam trains. Other evenings include illustrated talks about visits to interesting places at home and abroad, archaeological investigations, local history, engineering projects and during Lent a stimulating talk, perhaps from a charitable organisation.
If the speaker or subject is of wider interest, we open up the meeting to a wider audience from St Giles and use one of the larger rooms in The Community Hall. For example: we recently hosted two evenings of sketches by a local amateur dramatic group.Regular exceptions to our monthly meetings include a skittles match against the St Giles’ Ladies’ Wednesday Group at the Rose and Crown followed by sandwiches and chips, our short AGM at a local hostelry followed by a pub meal, a Sunday lunch with our partners in early January at another local hostelry and an outside visit in early summer to a place of interest to which our ladies are invited, again followed by a pub meal.
We also support St Giles’ fundraising by having a stall at both the Summer Fair and Christmas Fair.
We welcome all.
